 In central Istria there is one of the oldest footpaths, The Trail of St. Simeon. the circle footpath of St. Simeon starts and finishes in Gracisce. Starting downhill leads us into the ruins of the Curch of St. Simeon. The footpath was named after that church. Not far away you can see modest remains of a water mill. Passing over the old bridge made of stone you come to a picturesque waterfall. In the spring, water falls about twenty meters into a green lake. You can buy domestic food and wine on the way. The path is continued toward the peak named Maria Magdalena where the church is placed, as well as the belvedere having a wide view to the hills, wrinkled landscape of central Istria and Ucka mountain hanging over it. At the end it would be pity not to visit Gracisce, an interesting medieval town that keeps some of the most beautiful items of Gothic architecture in this part of Istria. |
15 kilometers long Zelengrad footpath is more demanded. It passes by the remains of Zelengrad, the old castle of Grdoselo and picturesque stony canyon.
The Beram footpath leads us to the Church of Beram, famous by frescos. These paths are hardly passable at some places and one should be careful surmounting them.
Walking from Groznjan to Oprtalj lasts 4 hours and there are two arranged resting-places. This region is also known by galleries of various artists from all over the world as well as by Istria white truffle that is one of the most respected in the world.
The Zbevnica footpath starts in Buzet and you need 45 minutes to come to a mountaineers’ refuge hut by a steep road.
The footpath from small place Brgudac to Korita, where another mountaineers’ refuge hut is situated, has similar properties. There are numerous footpaths from this place toward numerous peaks of the massif of Cicarija.
On the eastern coast there is the footpath Labin - Rabac from which you have a beautiful view of the old town of Labin and the sea. Streams with waterfalls crawn it. In this region there are about 45 kilometers of inscribed footpaths or about 16 walking hours from Crna Punta to Brsec on the north.
The south footpaths are not demanded and they are mainly placed in the vicinity of the sea. Of course you should walk on the Kamenjek cape on the very south of the peninsula declared to be protected landscape. After walking you can have a rest in Robinson’s ambient of the Safari Bar. |
For mountain climbing there are hundreds of kilometers of marked paths available from Crna Punta, over Ucka and Cicarija, to Slovenia, during the whole year. There are also three mountaineers’ refuge huts – on Ucka, Korita and Zbevnica. For more experienced mountaineers, we recommend organized and attractive walks with skilled guides out of usual routes.
For each of these walks you should be well prepared disregarding whether you go alone or with our guides. The north parts are known by uphill paths and changeable weather, whereas in coastal areas you should keep away from a bright sun. You should necessarily have good shoes, cane for feet relaxation, appropriate clothing, spare socks, raincoat and sun-cap. Besides required map or leaflet with a plan, it is good to have a compass, watch, knife, whistle and a piece of chalk. You should also bring with you enough quantity of water or tea, as well as food disregarding a planned meal in some of the restaurants. |
