Diving is more and more popular activity. Undersea world is a magnificent resource of mysterious beauty and pleasure in exploring unknown things. Diving in Istria is possible year round due to pleasant sea temperatures, especially in the period between May and November. |
We invite you to try the adventure and to discover the sea bottom of the Istrian peninsula, which, along with the various and preserved plant and animal world abounds with a multitude of caves, walls, hydro-archaeology attractions and shipwrecks. The most  popular shipwreck in our undersea region is Baron Gautsch, a cruiser being property of the Austria Royal Family. She sank on August 14, 1908, six miles away from the St. Ivan lighthouse after collision with an undersea mine. She is 85 meters long and her remains are at the depth of 28 to 39 meters. It is considered one of the most beautiful ship relics in the editerranean and proclaimed one of the 50 most beautiful diving locations in the whole world.
Besides this magnificent shipwreck, you can visit resting-places of another 11 unlucky ships: Corleanus, the war ships Dezza, Rossarol and Flamingo, as well as the ships Draga, Varese, Tihany, Rimorchiatore, Istra, Relitto Nuovo, Josephine and John Gilmoure. |
Diving centers and clubs throughout Istria are prepared for the organization and performance of diving in various attractive locations, for the assistance with diving, organization of courses (CMAS, PADI, NITROX, APNEA...). Moreover, they rent quality and reliable equipment, provide the servicing of personal equipment, and offer all counseling assistance. A major diving safety is ensured by the vicinity of the recompression chamber situated in Pula. |
Diving Regulations
- Scuba diving is allowed only upon presentation of a valid certification card issued by theCroatian Diving Federation (HRS) which is valid for one year from the date of issuing. Divers card will be issued only to persons with adequate qualifications.
- Temporary diving qualifications are not valid.
- A fee for the issue of a divercard in the Republic of Croatia will amount to Kuna 100.
- The area, at which diving is performed, must be visibly marked, an orange or red buoy or a diving flag.
- The maximum approved depth for diving for sport and recreation is 40 meters.
Diving Is not permitted at the following locations:
- In the areas of internal sea waters encompassing harbors, accesses to harbors, anchorageand the areas with heavy traffic.
- In strict and special sea reserves, natural parks and other protected sea and underseaareas.
- Near anchored warships and protected military facilities at the coastal edge at thedistance of less than 100 meters.
